If you like to sing, males of all ages are invited to visit Midwest Vocal Express male a cappella chorus rehearsal. There are no experience or music reading requirements.  Guests will be invited to join in singing harmony with the chorus and begin the process to become a member at your own pace.

The chorus meets at 7:00 pm every Monday night  in Elm Grove at Elm Grove Lutheran School (945 Terrace Dr). Prospective members are welcome at every rehearsal. See below for important information about our current rehearsal format.

What is the Midwest Vocal Express?

The Midwest Vocal Express chorus is an all-male performance choir in the Milwaukee area.  We are an affiliate chorus of the Barbershop Harmony Society, an organization of over 30,000 people of all ages, from all walks of life, who love to sing a cappella harmony. If you love to sing, we encourage you to attend one of our rehearsals on Monday nights.

What is Barbershop music?

Barbershop is a musical style based on 4-part a Capella harmony, based in the US and has a rich and exciting history. Barbershop is always sung by single voice groups in four parts, named after the male voices who traditionally sing them: tenor, lead, baritone, & bass.

Who is eligible for membership in the Midwest Vocal Express?

Anyone who is interested in singing! The membership includes men of all ages, coming from all over southern Wisconsin, and from a wide variety of careers.  We look for men with a passion for performing, a desire to sing challenging music, and a commitment to perfecting your best sound and visual elements possible.

Where do you perform?

Members of the Midwest Vocal Express chorus regularly enjoy competing in regional and international contests, performing at shows, community venues, and altruistic/charity performances (ex: VA hospital, Ronald McDonald House), and singing the national anthem for major sports teams.

What will my first rehearsal look like?

We ask all interested guests to do a voice placement for the correct singing part (i.e. tenor, bass, etc.), then join in and sing during rehearsal with the chorus with a provided guest music book.  You’ll get to warm up, sing songs from our repertoire, and meet new people.

What do rehearsals look like right now?

Per the recently updated CDC guidelines, it is safe for fully vaccinated people to sing indoors. As such, all members and guests must show proof of vaccination in order to join our in-person rehearsals. For those not vaccinated, we continue to offer a hybrid format for people to join the in-person group via Zoom. If you would like to join us via Zoom, fill out the form below or message us on Facebook and we'll send you the link, which changes weekly.
